The University of Maryland School of Law is located in downtown Baltimore,
six blocks northwest of the Inner Harbor and four blocks north of Oriole
Park at Camden Yards, in the University Center district.
The Thurgood Marshall Law Library and the School of Law share a common
building. The entrance to both the law library and the law school is located
at 500 W. Baltimore St, between Greene and Paca Streets.
From I-95 take Route 395 (downtown Baltimore) and exit onto Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., staying in the right lane. At the fourth traffic light, turn right onto Baltimore Street. Turn left at second traffic light onto Paca Street (get into right lane) and enter the Baltimore Grand Garage on your right. This garage is across the street from the Law Library.
Affiliated users of the Marshall Law Library include students, faculty and staff of University System of Maryland campuses; attorneys; School of Law alumni; and UMMC and VA staff. Students with valid IDs may bring guests into the library, but those guests must be accompanied by the student at all times.
Visitors are welcome to use the resources of the Law Library only for the purpose of conducting legal research or using government databases or print materials.
Affiliated users must present current photo identification associated with the campus or organization listed above. Attorneys should present proof of current bar membership along with government-issued photo identification. Alumni will be asked to show a valid driver's license or other government-issued photo identification to the security officer at the main entrance. The officer will check the name against a list of alumni.
Visitors must present a government-issued photo identification. If the request for entrance is granted, the security officer will scan the photo identification, take a photograph of the visitor, and issue a visitor's badge which must be worn and visible at all times.
Before 9:00 a.m. and after 8:00 p.m. on weekdays, and all day on weekends, access to the Marshall Law Library is granted only to authorized affiliated users. Visitors may not remain in the library after 8 p.m. on weekdays, and will be asked to leave at that time.
Visitor access is granted solely for the purpose of using library resources. Use of other portions of the law school building (courtyard, vending area, dining area, computers in other parts of the school, etc.) is strictly prohibited. Visitors who are not using library computers or library study areas for legal research purposes will be asked to leave.
